As a physician-acupuncturist and mindfulness practitioner, it has been a long life's journey for me to be where I am today.  Now, I am inviting you to my practice so that we can take the journey of health and healing together.

Born in Korea and growing up in a turbulent era where the whole nation was moving toward embracing Western values and economic prosperity, I learned to seek solace through mother nature early in my life.

Coming to America after high school education in Korea, I desired to be educated and have a meaningful  profession.  I first became a pharmacist (University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, 1980).  Not being fulfilled as a pharmacist, I furthered my education in medicine and became an internist (University of Maryland School of Medicine, 1987).  Still not content professionally, I sought further.

I received mindfulness training through the Institute for Mind-Body Medicine (founded by Herbert Benson, M.D.) and acupuncture training through the Traditional Acupuncture Institute (graduated in 1995).  In a way, I have rerooted to my Eastern heritage of health and healing later in my life.

After becoming a physician-acupuncturist and mindfulness practitioner, life events led me to the Won Institute of Graduate Studies in Philadelphia, a mindfulness-based graduate  school.  There, I was involved in creating an acupuncture program, taught acupuncture students, deepened my understanding in Eastern medicine and healing, and further refined my integration of Eastern and Western medicine and healing.

Over time, I have come to realize that the root of our sufferings lie in our wired and habituated brain, the source of disharmony between our body and mind.  And, I learned that "compassion and wisdom" is the path to restore our body and mind in harmony.  We need to cultivate compassion toward ourselves and wisdom to know the nature of our challenges as we are engaging with them mindfully.

This realization led me to offer the Art of Living wellness class in addition to my acupuncture and medical services to create a space where participants can realize the commonalities in our sufferings and have transformative growth by cultivating mindfulness and renewed purpose in our life.

With the above personal realization and practice, I am offering my service to you so that I can be your companion for your health and healing.

  • Acupuncture and Herbs: My acupuncture practice is based on the premise that the human body has innate wisdom to heal and the disturbed bodily manifestations are guides for us to be whole again.  When acupuncture alone is not adequate, I use herbs.

  • General Internal Medicine: My general internal medicine practice is based on the premise that our lifestyle and stress profoundly impact our physiology.  Therefore, I emphasize the importance of lifestyle changes and stress management in addition to the use of conventional therapies.

  • Wellness Classes: This class is to cultivate inner clarity for our transformative growth, lifestyle changes, and stress management. Classes consist of mindful movements, discussions, and meditation.
